Balanced You Mindfulness: Summer 2024 schedule

Mindfulness is the practice of being present and fully engaged with whatever we’re doing at the moment—free from distraction or judgment. It’s a proven method to reduce stress, improve focus, and enhance overall well-being. Balanced You is thrilled to announce an exciting new partnership with mindfulness providers CuriosityBased and SolJoy. This collaboration is part of our ongoing commitment to support the well-being of our employees. To read the description of each class, click on the register link below.

Mindfulness classes for all King County employees

These classes are open to all employees. Each class is a one-time event. Below is a list of upcoming classes, along with their registration links.

Class descriptions:

Energize and Calm: Moving Meditations to Ground Your Energy for Mental Calm and Core Power [BODY POWER]: Got high stress and tension to release in your body? Learn the ancient energy principle foundation of “Water Up Fire Down” to circulate your energy through simple moving meditations. Learn how to build simple somatic health habits to become more mindful during your day. This is an interactive somatic mindfulness class with content the first 15 minutes, followed by somatic mindfulness practices for 15 minutes then Q&A. Please be in a quiet, private space free of distractions.

Introduction to Practicing Curiosity: CuriosityBased, likens curiosity to a practice instead of as an external personality trait. The first step of this practice is self-awareness and mindfulness. In this learning experience, the instructor will break down the practice into actionable steps. You will get to connect with and learn from your colleagues while also contributing to King County’s culture of learning. Practicing curiosity at work leads to more trust and less miscommunication.

Heart Wellness: Cultivating Self-Compassion and Detoxifying Your Emotions [HEART POWER]: Cultivate your emotional resilience by detoxing stored memories and trauma stored in the organs of your body through sound and simple qigong moving meditations. Learn which organs process what emotions according to traditional eastern medicine. This is an interactive somatic mindfulness class with content the first 15 minutes, followed by somatic mindfulness practices for 15 minutes then Q&A. Ideally, be in a quiet, private space free of distractions where you can make noise. If you cannot, there will be alternative ways to practice in your chair and in silence.

Focusing the Mind: Calm the Chatter, Quiet the Noise, and Breathe Deep [MIND POWER]: Bypass your thoughts and emotions to through energy that allows deeper breathing. Learn the ancient practice of “jigam” meditation, a state of no thoughts and emotions, to work with silence that will help calm the mind and focus with relaxed concentration. This is an interactive somatic mindfulness class with content the first 15 minutes, followed by somatic mindfulness practices for 15 minutes then Q&A. Please be in a quiet, private space free of distractions.

Qigong Tai Chi Movement: Move your body to feel more health, happiness, and peace. The rhythms of modern life often require too much sitting staring at a screen. Get ready to release stress, detox emotions, and relax the mind to transform your energy for more health, happiness, and peace. Each class is different and may include but not limited to: stretching and flexibility, core strengthening, energy accumulation, releasing stagnant energy in joints, meditation, and learning tai chi forms. All levels are welcome. This is an interactive somatic mindfulness class of 100% movement. Bring your yoga mat, loose fitting clothes, water bottle, and enough room to move around. Please be in a quiet, private space free of distractions, cameras on, where the instructor can guide you.

Joy as Choice [SOUL POWER]: Learn the science behind smiling. Harness laughter, and practice mindful exercises to use in daily life no matter what high stress or challenge you’re facing. This is an interactive somatic mindfulness class with content the first 15 minutes, followed by somatic mindfulness practices for 15 minutes then Q&A. Please be in a quiet, private space free of distractions. The objective is to learn how to access joy as a choice for no reason in any hardship or challenging circumstance through building bite-size health habits.
