As we look beyond Mental Health Month, Balanced You invites employees to continue learning about emotional well-being. In this spirit, employees are invited to join Balanced You on Thursday, June 13, from noon to 1 p.m. for a Balanced You Self-Care Webinar on post-traumatic stress disorder. Register here for the webinar.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition where people struggle to recover long after they experience or witness a deeply terrifying event. Such traumatic events can involve a stressful situation where someone is exposed to actual or threatened death, severe injury, or violence. According to the American Psychiatric Association, PTSD symptoms include intrusive symptoms (nightmares and flashbacks), avoidance (staying away from reminders of the trauma), increased arousal (being startled easily, trouble concentrating, or difficulty sleeping), and changes in thoughts or feelings (believing you are “bad” or loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy).
PTSD is a condition that can be diagnosed and treated and should never be considered a sign of weakness. Learning to cope with symptoms of PTSD can be challenging, which is why seeking treatment and developing healthy ways of managing your symptoms is essential.
For more information on PTSD, please consider joining our upcoming Balanced You Self-Care Webinar on PTSD. Register here.
If you feel you need help in navigating PTSD, please consider seeking counseling by contacting a counselor through your employee health benefits or by contacting the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) or the Making Life Easier Program (MLE).
