Let’s Talk About: Health Care Choices

This fall, Balanced You is partnering with Benefits, Payroll, and Retirement Operations to offer up resources, information, and tools to support you in making good health care choices. Open Enrollment is just around the corner and we want you to have the information you need.

Over the next few months, we’ll shine the spotlight on health care choices. We want to help you become a savvy health care shopper, get the right preventive care, talk with your doctor, and more. If there’s a topic you’d like us to feature, let us know.

There’s a variety of information to help you make great health care choices. Check out the information below and consider trying something new.

  • Need an easy way to save money? Each year during Open Enrollment – Nov.1 – 15 – you can enroll in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA). You’ll set aside pretax dollars from your paycheck, then use it to pay for eligible health care or dependent care expenses. Since you’re not paying federal or FICA taxes on your FSA money, you get a huge tax savings!
  • We can no longer deny the signs—the sun is setting earlier, and kids are back in school—summer is coming to an end. Now is the perfect time—before bugs start spreading in your kids’ classes and sneezes begin echoing in your office—to get your recommended yearly flu shot. Onsite flu shots for employees have started. Check out this year’s schedule for onsite flu shots and read answers to common questions regarding flu vaccinations.
  • When your doctor suggests a treatment, it’s important for you to be an active participant in the final decision. After all, it’s your health. Use the 5 Questions to Ask When Your Doctor Suggests a Treatment compiled by Choosing Wisely and Own Your Health to help you make the decision that is best for you.
  • Do you have questions about what different health insurance terms mean? You’re not alone. Check out this short list of Health Insurance Terms You Should Know and if you want a deeper dive, this Glossary from HealthCare.gov might be right for you (and, it’s also available in Spanish).
