It’s summertime and the cooking is easy. With produce from local farmers that is! King County proudly supports local farmers through its CSA@Work program (Community Supported Agriculture). CSAs are a popular way for consumers to buy local seasonal food directly from a farmer who offers a “share” in their harvest. Typically, the share consists of a weekly box of vegetables delivered throughout the farming season – usually June through October.
Beginning in late June, CSA@Work will deliver weekly boxes of freshly harvested produce to 12 King County worksites. With each delicious box, the possibilities are endless. Tossed salad with vibrant leafy greens and juicy red tomatoes? Quick and simple. Veggie stir-fry with sugar snapped peas and a colorful array of peppers? Easy peas-y. Sweet grilled corn on the barbie? Yes, please! Each week, you’ll receive recipes, storage tips, and easy preparation ideas to make the most of your box.
In addition, buying a local CSA share supports King County farmer livelihoods, which keeps our region thriving and resilient. Perks for the body, the soul, and the greater community – what’s not to like?
Interested in joining a CSA@Work program?
Choose from one of the 12 King County worksites. You don’t have to work at a particular building to select it (with the four noted exceptions), but keep in mind it should be convenient for you to pick up your order on a weekly basis. Note that in order for produce to be delivered to a worksite, there must be a minimum of 10 participants. If you’re planning on signing-up, don’t hesitate! Sign up today to ensure delivery to your selected worksite.
Don’t see a worksite on the list that’s close to you? While locations are set for 2018, we’re considering additional sites for next year. Contact us for information on setting up a CSA delivery at your worksite. We’re always looking for ways to meet your needs and improve our programs.
