You normally hear about resolutions in January. But with Labor Day now behind us, it seems like a good time to take an inventory and formulate a plan for the remainder of the year.
Maybe getting specific here will be helpful. Here are 5 ideas for fall resolutions to get the ball rolling!
- Choose ONE healthier eating strategy a month for Sept, Oct, Nov and Dec.
- Take care of your health
–Colds and flu: Wash your hands often – especially when you come home from work. Cough or sneeze into your elbow, not your hands. Get a flu shot.
–Seasonal allergies: Ragweed is the biggest culprit this time of year, but mold and indoor allergens also pose a problem. Talk to your doctor about the best line of treatment. - Get more sleep
–Set a specific goal like: I will get 7.5 hours of sleep every night.
–Establish a nighttime routine. Taking a warm bath or shower, reading a book or listening to soothing music can help you wind down.
–Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day (even on weekends).
–Avoid caffeine, heavy meals and electronics a few hours before bedtime.
–Let go of stress and anxiety by writing down your thoughts. Keep a journal by your bed. - Reinvent your exercise program
–Consider the items that ARE working and expand on them. For example: taking the stairs to your desk every morning. If this is working, add another stair climb at lunch.
–Remember that it’s the small things that count the most. Don’t try to do too much at one time.
–One of my favorites: Do 50 pushups and 50 sit ups every single day. (you can start with 30/30) - Mind your Stress
–Take a stress reduction class.
–Make time to be with good, trusted friends (…or to make some!)
–Do something for somebody else. Make the autumn a time for helping others, while also helping you.
